Hoosier Burn Camp serves Indiana's young people from ages 8-18 who have suffered the pain and trauma of being caught in a fire. For many of these children, this is the only opportunity to connect with other burn survivors, play in the outdoors without another child looking or asking about their skin. There are individuals in Valparaiso that can relate to this issue. Parents have been brought to tears as their children swim in one of two large swimming pools when they will not even undress for the bathtub in their homes.
Hoosier Burn Camp needs continued support as we look to the future for increasing enrollment. THE BURN CAMP NEEDS INVOLVEMENT FROM THE VALPARAISO COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT OUR PRODUCT OF CHANGING LIVES. Together with the support of Indiana's Fire Service and RILEY'S CHILDREN HOSPITAL, Hoosier Burn camp can and will continue to create memories that last a lifetime. The lasting effects of these positive experiences also transfer over to other areas of life, such as home, school and other relationship development. One counselor for every two campers is provided. Hoosier Burn Camp is "A PLACE TO BE JUST ONE OF THE KIDS"....And so much more.
