Hello everyone,
I recently signed up to NW Indiana reCONNECT after a friend of mind told me about it, after she signed up. With so many social networks out there and so little time to keep up with them how does reCONNECT fit into your everyday life? I'm curious to hear how successful this local online community is. Has anyone benefited from this community and if so what was the outcome. I feel that a community like this can be much more powerful than other big box sites, for the simple fact that these people live just miles from you. I really believe in NWI and all of it's talented people. It would be nice to hear from those who have meet and fostered relationships and those who have been here for awhile and have not received benefits from this community like this one.

Joe,
Social media and the various outlets have become more main stream in recent months especially after Obama leveraged it to get votes and ultimately the presidency. This particular social network has been built on collaboration and being advocates for what you believe.
It is hard to measure the benefit or cost of social media especially for those who look to it for community. For instance, is there an ROI on your Facebook account? As with any endeavor in life, you will only get back what you put in. Your success will be driven by your level of participation and how much awareness you can bring to the table.
